The economic illiteracy of our political elites has never been so evident. They are completely indifferent to the material basis that make our societies possible.
Very well written Colin. Farmers and ranchers here, and elsewhere, are building soil with intensive grazing, which means you put more livestock on smaller pastures for short durations. Cows are not the problem (as greenies will say) but one major solution.
Whatever one thinks of a given policy of VP, it is undeniable that he has the long-term interests of his people at heart and is serving them well. Much the same can be said about (the much maligned in the West) Xi Jinping. Our political systems no longer seem able to produce such capable leadership.
Putin, and the Russians in general, are not bullshitters. They stick to their word. Also, as a Russian friend recently pointed out, they are slow to rouse themselves out of their boreal torpor. But once they mobilize, they are unstoppable, as the Germans learned to their dismay in WWII.
Yes! There are cycles and reasons for chickens and cows and goats and horses, etc. The fact most people are so divorced from that reality is one of the reasons we are in this soup.
The Liberal Democracies are operating on ideological bumper stickers. The messages are deliberately stupid oversimplifications. The parties want to attract simpleton supporters—and only simpletons. They don't want critically capable support. That would entail accountability, which is sunrise to vampires for them.
Another advantage of bumper stickers is they eliminate the need for ideological coherence. The slogan-chanting suckers are happiest with fatuous emojis, empty sanctimony, virtue-signalling Twitter bios, digital lynch mobs and new bumper stickers.

Thanks! A big YES to well-managed grazing, an integral part of building topsoil.
I am getting a similar take on Putin, I appreciate your perceptive appraisal.

If you listen to what he says, he follows through. So many pundits must make things up about what he plans to do.

Everything you mention is full on display in my neck of the woods at moment, blue-yellow flags galore.
It seems to help conceal the descent into technocratic barbarism.
